The cause of a fire in a former gun shop, which is currently being used as a residence in Tioga County is under investigation.

Three fire companies responded to the blaze on Frost Hollow Road in Barton shortly before noon November 19 and found the house engulfed in flames.

At one, point, there was an explosion in the structure but no one was injured.  It’s not clear if the blast, which blew debris into the yard, was the result of something in the house that was left over from when the structure housed the gun shop.

Crews from Tioga Center, Halsey Valley and Nichols were slowed in their attack on the fire by having to haul water from a nearby lake since there are no fire hydrants in the area.
