The Binghamton Mets got a big break from the weatherman as they had dry weather and temperatures in the 50's for their season opener last night at NYSEG Stadium.  However, no one told the Akron RubberDucks that the home team is supposed to make their fans happy and win the first game of the new season.  The RubberDucks got four RBI's from Giovanny Urshela and coasted to a 7-1 win over Binghamton.

B-Mets starter Darin Gorski was shaky.  In the first inning he walked three batters and three 85 pitches in 3-2/3 innings of work.  Overall, B-Mets pitching gave up 11 walks, the most issued by the B-Mets since June 7, 2011 when they gave up 11 to the Harrisburg Senators.  Akron pitching kept the ball down in the strike zone and produced  18 ground ball outs..

The second game of the season is set for 7:05 tonight at NYSEG Stadium  Right-handed pitcher Rainy Lara will make hist first Double-A start for Binghamton.  The RubberDucks will counter with right-hander Joe Colon on the hill for Akron.Tonight's game will also be broadcast on News Radio 1290 WNBF.  Pre-game coverage begins at 6:50 PM.
