Axe-Swinging Chenango County Man Jailed

Bob Joseph/WNBF News

A Chenango County man is accused of hacking up a home in the Town of Plymouth with and axe and throwing items at a child in a drunken rage.

Sheriff’s officials say 39 year old James Wilber was arrested September 13 after officers say they found him, intoxicated, destroying property at a home.  Officers say the incident happened in the vicinity of a child, who is under the age of 15.

The child climbed out of a window and called authorities from a neighbor’s house.

Wilber was taken into custody by the sheriff’s office and New York State Police and charged with reckless endangerment, menacing and endangering the welfare of a child.

He was sent to the Chenango County Jail on $5,000 bail.
