Loose Tire in Virgil Leads to DWI Arrest

A Cortland man is charged with aggravated drunk driving after his vehicle damaged by a tire that came off another vehicle traveling on Route 215 in the Town of Virgil at 6:19 p.m. May 27.

Sheriff’s Deputies say 51 year old Roger Simpson, also of Cortland, was driving north when his front, driver’s-side tire came off, rolled into the oncoming lane, and hit a Ford Explorer driven by 39 year old Steven Campbell

Information Sought in Fatal Sidney Crash

New York State Police are again appealing for information concerning a fatal crash that happened at around 6:30 a.m. May 20 on Interstate 88 east in the Town of Sidney.

A Lorton, Virginia woman died in the crash after the vehicle she was driving left the north side of the highway, then traveled into the median where it rolled several times

Spencer Man Accused of Stealing Fundraiser Money

Tips from the public have resulted in the arrest of a man believed to have stolen proceeds from a Mother’s Day Fundraiser at the Candor Emergency Medical Services building.

Tioga County Sheriff’s officials say 52 year old Daniel Merrill of Spencer is charged with felony counts of burglary and grand larceny, accused of forcibly entering the EMS building in the early morning hours of May 11, following the chicken barbeque held the day before, and stealing about $2,000 that had been raised to help Candor EMS improve equipment
