Attempted Murder Charged in Norwich Shooting

A Chenango County man is charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting incident at around 3:30 a.m. July 19.

Norwich Police say 33 year old Wayne Spratley of Greene, who is a New York State Department of Corrections employee, is expected to be charged with additional counts in connection with the incident at a parking lot off Lackawanna Avenue.

Police were called to the scene with witnesses reporting seeing two people struggling on the ground and then hearing two shots.

The victim was taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital, then transferred to Upstate University Medical Center where the last report put the person in critical condition with at least one gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Police have not released the name of the victim.

Spratley was sent to the Chenango County Jail on $50,000 bail.
