Speaking in downtown Binghamton this afternoon, the Westchester County executive said he and the Democratic governor should go one-on-one to discuss the issues important to people in this part of the state.

Astorino said he's challenging Cuomo to a series of eight regional debates with Cuomo.

The Republican candidate said a Southern Tier debate could address issues like taxes, agriculture, economic development and natural gas exploration.

Cuomo yet to announce an agreement to face Astorino, who says debates should involve only the two major party candidates.

Astorino appeared in front of Binghamton City Hall on Hawley Street with his running mate, Chemung County Sheriff Christopher Moss.
