A suspect has been arrested in the shooting death of 28 year-old Jamaal A. Moses of Binghamton.  19 year-old Jonathan Garcia, also of Binghamton and identified as a person of interest in connection with the shooting was apprehended by U.S. Marshals as he exited a highway in Miami, Florida February 15. At 3:30 a.m. February 16 an Arrest Warrant was issued charging Garcia with one count of Murder in the Second Degree.  He is being held at a Dade County Correctional Facility to await further processing.

Speaking at a news conference with Mayor Rich David, Binghamton Chief of Police Joseph Zikuski said the shooting occurred as the result of a drug deal gone bad.  He said  Garcia is of Cuban descent and had family in the Miami area.  Police are not sure if he hoped to hideout in Miami or make his way back to Cuba.

Detectives are still working on the case and ask anyone with information pertaining to the incident to contact the Binghamton Police Detective Bureau at 607-772-7080.  Tipsters can remain anonymous.
