Apalachin Search Tied to Regional Burglary Spree

A Dunkin' Donuts link to a recent burglary spree in Broome and Tioga counties may be bringing investigators closer to the suspects.

Police agencies in the region appear to have developed new leads with the latest incident this week at the Dunkin' Donuts store on Route 434 in Apalachin.

Tioga County sheriff's deputies and state troopers spent hours searching the area near the business Monday morning. The store was not permitted to open until about 1 p.m. that day.

As the hunt for clues was getting started in Apalachin, Broome County sheriff's deputies were busy in Endwell trying to track down surveillance video near the Dunkin' Donuts store on Country Club Road.

Investigators from Broome, Tioga, Chemung and Tompkins counties met in Horseheads Wednesday to share information about a series of business burglaries.

Authorities say more than a dozen incidents have been reported over the last two weeks. They believe the burglaries are related and are the work of the same people.

Police expect to arrest suspects related to the investigation soon.

Local Dunkin' Donuts store employees have been advised not to discuss the matter.
