Construction is continuing on a 50-room hotel in eastern Tioga County.

The future Comfort Inn is being built in Apalachin, just off State Route 17. It will be operated by Everest Hotel Group.

Cheryl Benninger, who is manager of the neighboring Quality Inn, told WNBF News she'll also manage the Comfort Inn.

Benninger said the new hotel likely will open between mid-May and early June. She said construction started in mid-September.

Benninger said work on the project appears to be on schedule. She said the roof should be built on the three-story structure soon.

The planned Comfort Inn will include a few business suites and a meeting room that may be used as a work area.

Benninger said the existing Quality Inn already has benefited from the growth in the natural gas industry in neighboring Pennsylvania.

She said it's "kind of in a lull" now because of conditions in the industry but she expects activity will pick up again.
