A crane was used to remove tons of obsolete equipment from atop a nearly-century old structure in downtown Binghamton.

The old heating and air conditioning system hadn't been used in about 25 years.

The new owners of what was built in 1923 as the City National Bank Building wanted to rusting metal gear hauled away before a new roof is installed.

The former bank is part of the Metrocenter complex at Court and Washington streets. The property was acquired last year by Marchuska Construction of Broome County.

The old bank building now is occupied by HealthlinkNY.

Bernie Marchuska said roof work to the north section of the Metrocenter site was recently completed.

Marchuska said the company been working to make improvements to the Metrocenter. He said the planned work is expected to cost more than $1.7 million.

The property was purchased for $3.2 million.
