Customers who normally frequent a bank branch at the Oakdale Mall will have to get used to doing their business at another location soon.

Chemung Canal Trust is the latest business to announce it is pulling out of the mall in Johnson City.  A sign on the door of the branch says the location will close January 18 once its lease expires.

Branches on Court Street in Binghamton and Rano Boulevard in Vestal will remain open.

The Oakdale Mall has recently lost three large department stores, including one of the earliest tenants at the mall: Sears.  Macy’s, which moved into the former Montgomery Ward’s store at the South end of the mall years after that closed, as well as the most recent store to exit, the BonTon, have all shut their doors in the past two years.

The trend of the closing and re-purposing of shopping malls is being seen nation-wide as more and more consumers turn to online shopping rather than visiting brick-and-mortar stores.
