Another blighted Binghamton property is gone.

The former Yonda’s Bar on Glenwood Avenue was torn down July 6 at a demolition cost of $31,123. That money came from the City’s General Fund.

Binghamton Mayor Richard David says property like Yonda’s, that has been vacant and deteriorating for years, drags down surrounding property values and invites criminal activity.

The City negotiated to purchase the property for $20,603 from a private seller to speed up the demolition instead of waiting for a lengthy foreclosure process.

The Glenwood Avenue property is the fifth building to be torn down by the City this year.
