Classes at Broome Community College were canceled for a time Monday after an interruption in electric service to portions of the town of Dickinson campus.

The power problem that developed this morning resulted in the cancellation of classes through 5:30 p.m.

The electricity had been restored by early afternoon and school officials announced that Monday evening classes would be held.

Power was knocked out in some buildings although sections of the campus were not affected.

The problem was triggered by an opossum that apparently got into a fuse box. The animal died after coming into contact with the electrical equipment.
