American Heart Association Honors Volunteers

The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association honored a number of area volunteers and businesses who had a part in raising over $240,000 in the recent Southern Tier Heart Walk held last month on campus at SUNY Broome.  Over 2,000 walkers participated in the benefit walk.

Among major award winners were:  Michael Taylor of the Union Volunteer Emergency Squad. He was named the Volunteer of the Year. Taylor trains hundreds of area residents in Hands-Only CPR annually along with other life-saving skills.

Terri Donovan, who is the winner of the Lifestyle Change Award sponsored by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield.  Donovan made major lifestyle choices to dramatically improve her health.  She quit smoking, lost weight, exercised more and lowered her blood pressure significantly.

The awards celebration was held at the Terra Cotta on State Street in Binghamton.  The date of the 2017 Southern Tier Heart Walk is Sunday, April 9 at SUNY Broome.
