Speaking on the June 14 weekly local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, American Civic Association Executive Director Andrew Baranoski says the agency has felt some backlash following several recent negative news stories dealing with immigration issues.

Baranoski says the ACA on Front Street, Binghamton strives to help refugees and other new-comers to earn their citizenship and secure employment.

He agrees there is a problem with illegal immigration and some people who enter the country.  Baranoski says until there is a meaningful conversation between all sides, the complicated issues surrounding immigration can not be resolved.

On a lighter subject, Baranoski details the upcoming First Annual Refugee Day Breakfast June 20 and 5K run June 21.
