The America East opened conference basketball play Wednesday night with a road win and a pair of home victories.  In men's action the Hartford Hawks toppled the Albany Great Danes 72-64.  UMBC defeated New Hampshire iCatonsville, Md and Stony Brook edged Maine 71-70 on Long Island.

Hartford got off to a flying start at the SEFCU Arena as they defeated the Great Danes on their home court 72-64.  The win ups the Hawks' record to 8-7 while Albany falls to 12-4.  It was their first home loss this season in nine games. Albany came into the game ranked fourth nationally in the CollegeInsider.com Mid Major Top-25 poll.

At the RAC the UMBC Retrievers upped their record to 10-6 on the season with their win over New Hampshire. Jairus Lyles pace the Retrievers with 27 points while Arkel Lamar notched 20 points and grabbed ten rebounds.

At Stony Brook UC Iroegbu nailed a three-point game-winning shot with just four seconds left in the game to give his Stony Brook a 71-70 win over the Maine Black Bears.  Maine's Aaron Calixte had his consecutive free-throw shooting streak ended at a team record 37 in a row.  He scored 21 points for the Black Bears who play at Binghamton on Saturday at 1 PM at the Events Center.  It will be the sixth consecutive road game for the Black Bears.

Thursday night the Vermont Catamounts travel to face UMass Lowell in a 7 PM game.  Vermont finished their non-conference schedule at 9-5 while UMass Lowell comes in at 6-7.
