Amber Alert Called Off

An Amber Alert that was issued late last week for a girl from the Wilkes-Barre area who was reportedly abducted at her home by a man who had an order of protection against him, has been canceled with the 16 year old safely returned to her parents.

Authorities were called to the area of Mineral Springs with a report the girl and her family were forced from their car as they arrived home and a man who tried to intervene was pistol-whipped.

Following a tip early August 1 Police, including the U.S. Marshals Office found the girl and 21 year old Walter Lewis in a hospital parking garage and took Lewis into custody after a struggle.

Lewis is charged with numerous counts including kidnapping and weapons charges.
