Tearing down a blighted building in Binghamton is translating into more space at a South Side park.

A vacant house on Alfred Street was torn down last week as part of the City’s program of razing blighted and dangerous properties.

The parcel is being added to the neighboring Alfred Street Park and will be used as a picnic area.

Wells Fargo donated the foreclosed property to the City and contributed $50,600 to the cost of the demolition of the property and another lot on Second Street.
