Afton Teen Charged in Tree-Branch Assault

An Afton teen is accused of hitting a man in the head with a branch at a campground.

New York State Police say they arrested 19 year old Stephen counterman Junior for felony assault and misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon following an argument between the teen and a 53 year old man at a campground on State Highway 7 in Afton Saturday.

Troopers say during the course of the dispute, Counterman allegedly hit the man in the back of the head with the branch.

The victim had to be treated at Wilson Hospital for a laceration to the head.

Counterman was sent to the Chenango County Jail on $10,000 bail.
