Afton Man Accused of Stealing a Vehicle on a Test Drive

An Afton man is accused of trying to dupe a Guilford resident in a vehicle sale scheme.

Chenango County Sheriff’s officials say on May 22^nd, 45 year old Russell Davis allegedly defrauded the victim by claiming he would pay more than the asking price for a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer by June 1 if he was allowed to take it for the day with the title being signed over to him.

Authorities say they believe Davis never intended to make any payments and took the SUV directly to a scrap yard for sale.

Davisis charged with grand larceny and scheme to defraud.

He was sent to the Chenango County Jail.
