Spectrum is dropping some commercials following an assertion by state regulators that the company was making false claims.

Charter Communications announced it would "halt airing certain advertising" as part of an effort to resolve "outstanding disputed matters" with the New York Public Service Commission.

The regulatory agency Friday started a formal effort to require Charter to turn over its cable and broadband operations in the state to other providers.

The commission has said Charter's Spectrum unit has lied in ads by claiming it is exceeding commitments and is "on track to deliver its network expansion."

The Charter statement said the company looks forward to resolving the dispute with the PSC "in the not too distant future."

A Charter financial filing on Tuesday said the company "believes the actions by the PSC are without merit."

The company said it intends to aggressively fight the agency in a legal battle that could "continue for up to several years."
