People who live and work in the neighborhood near the former Warehouse Carpet Outlet building at 3100 Watson Boulevard say they're glad the structure is coming down.

Asbestos was removed from the structure last week and demolition crews started tearing down the building on Wednesday.

LCP Group of Vestal was hired for the project, which is expected to be complete within a few days.

The building owner, Thomas Mazzanoble of Binghamton, could not be reached to discuss what is planned for the property.

Neighborhood residents say the building had housed a supermarket for decades before it was used as a carpet store.
