Kathy Whyte/ WNBF News

A Windsor man, who was preparing to trap at the Forest Lake Campground on Ostrander Road in the Town of Windsor February 10 has died after falling through ice on the property.

New York State Police say as 39 year old Richard McKee Junior was walking the property at 4:47 p.m., he entered onto a section of ice located above running water.  The ice broke and McKee fell, chest-deep, into the frigid water.

Authorities say McKee was able to get out but became unresponsive while walking back to his vehicle.

He was taken to Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center in Johnson City where he was later pronounced dead.

In addition to the State Police, the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department, Windsor Ambulance and Superior Ambulance responded to the scene.
