Alex Rodriguez notched his 3,0000th career hit Friday night when he hit a home run off Detroit ace Justin Verlander helping his New York Yankees post a 7-2 victory.  Rodriguez entered the 3,000 hit club with flare by ripping the solo shot.  He did not keep the Yankee fans waiting  as his milestone hit came in the first inning.

Rodriguez is back this season after sitting out all of last season while serving a drug suspension.  Many thought he would not be able to return to the Major Leagues at all let alone return as a key cog in the Yankee lineup.  Rodriguez turns 40 next month and becomes just the 29th player to reach the 3,000 hit level in Major league baseball.

A Rod becomes the first player to reach 3,000 hits since Yankee great Derek Jeter did so. Jeter struck a home run as well.  That was in the 2011 season.
