A Brooklyn man will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing a Johnson City man in 2010.

A Broome County Judge handed down the maximum sentence of life without parole for 32 year old Maurice Anthony.

Anthony was convicted in June of last year on first degree murder, second degree murder and two counts of attempted robbery in the death of 21 year old Eric Dantzler.

Dantzler was shot in his vehicle on Corliss Avenue near Wilson Hospital in December of 2010.

Prosecutors say the shooting was the result of the attempted theft of money and marijuana and word that Dantzler reportedly turned down efforts by Antony to recruit him into a gang may have also played a part.

During his address to the court during sentencing, Anthony maintained his innocence and said to Dantzler’s family that he is sorry Eric is no longer here.

In what was described as a shocking turn during those remarks to the court, Anthony took a jab at the lead investigator in the case, Dave, D.W. Smith, who was killed March 31st in the line of duty, apparently taking joy in the officer’s death.
