The region is remembering the devastation suffered ten years ago when torrential rains caused rivers and streams to overflow from June 26-28, 2006, destroying dozens of homes and businesses.

Thousands of people were evacuated with Conklin and Endwell particularly hard hit by what was called a 100-year flood.

Little would it be anticipated that the destruction was to be eclipsed just five years later by Tropical Storm Lee.

Some businesses and homes damaged in the 2011 flood have been torn down or are still in recovery. And in the past few months, the new Mac Arthur School in Binghamton and Owego Elementary School have just opened.
